Doctors, Doctors, and more Doctors

Yesterday I had to get a bunch of labs drawn to check on the infection and I also had to do the 28 week pregnancy labs...which includes the horrific orange sugar drink! Today I had my appointment to get all the results back..... I failed the 1 hour glucose test and have to go back on Monday for the 3 hour test. This means I get to chug another horrible orange drink that is twice the concentration and sit around the hospital for hours to get labs drawn every hour for 3 hours! WOW that sounds amazing! ( I guess it will give me some time to work on my next crochet project!) But the good side to that is that I don't have to feel guilty about doing a carb overload for 3 days this weekend! YUM! Andrew is super excited to help with this task! I was told to not only have high carb meals, but also to top each one off with a candy bar, cake, ice cream or any dessert of my choice....I think I can handle that....and thank you Doc! This may seem odd considering I am going in to check for gestational diabetes, but the concept behind it is to trick the pancreas into being used to producing enough insulin to support that much sugar. Most pregnant women try to keep the desserts to a minimum because they want to avoid unnecessary weight gain, but then when you drop that much sugar (from the drink) into your body in the 5 minute time limit your pancreas is overloaded and can't keep up. But we will definitely be praying for good results on Monday, I'm not sure this little man can handle much more being thrown at him! As for the labs concerning the abscess...white blood count was down slightly (this is good) but the sed rate and CRP are actually higher than they were last week (this is not good) but she was alarmed because I have only been on antibiotics for 4 days and those 2 seem to lag behind a bit. She said next weeks labs will tell us more. She also said that unless I am granted with a miracle, I will need surgery after the baby. Doing surgery now puts me at high risk for delivering and at 28 weeks I am thankful that we can try to buy him some more cooking time! I got 2 phone calls already this week that 2 of the docs will be out of the office when I had appts scheduled so I ended up rescheduling the rest I had for this week to next week! Slighting overwhelming considering I had made plans for Brynlee, but I guess there is nothing I can do about it!

I don't know if I mentioned this before either, but last week when I went to pick up my antibiotic for the month, the said the total was going to be $600. I'm not sure who's mouth hit the floor first between Andrew and myself. Our pharmacist is fantastic and told me to fight it because there are numerous other things I could be on. Well, once again I fought and they put me back on the very first med I was on, Clindamycin. This was amazing news to me because this doesn't put the baby at risk and is a fraction of the cost! I had been praying like crazy about it because I was just so unsure about taking the Augmentin again and once again God showed me His control and I am SO THANKFUL!

Last but certainly not least, Brynlee has been acting touchy lately and all of the sudden refuses to use the potty. Well, I wasn't going to push her, I know it will happen with time. But then yesterday she was having a really restless nap and woke up screaming that "her potty" hurt and was holding her girl parts. She was inconsolable for about 15 minutes and then she finally let me look and it looked red so we headed to convenient care. They had to cath her which was probably one of the worst things Andrew and I have had to witness. It took 2 nurses and both of us to hold her down and she could still get free. Andrew was at Wal-Mart when we were on our way over there so he grabbed some Smarties and M&Ms just in case...THANK GOODNESS! Plus she made out like a bandit with stickers. One of the nurses came back in and said everyone was giving her a hard time for putting our baby through that so she let Brynlee take as many as she wanted....lets just say they needed to refill the basket! They decided to treat for a UTI but said it is most likely from bacteria getting in there during the bath and that she needed to take showers.....well Brynlee taking a shower is laughable! We have tried it a couple times and I have one word....NIGHTMARE! She is already acting better and today she talked about using the potty. So if you think of her say a few prayers that she gets to feeling like herself soon!

We need a break from doctors! :)
